People use the term “gauges” or “gauged” because its the layman’s term.
Everyone with stretched ears will generally refer to their “stretched ears” as gauges. Nine times out of then, its because they’re usually referring to the jewelry itself rather than the actual piercing. And once again, it’s layman’s terms. If one person said it to another, they would instantly know what the other person was talking about.
